Frequently Asked Questions

THREADING

What is threading?

Threading is a natural approach in removing unwanted facial hair. A thread is systematically twisted and pulled along the surface of the skin with the unwanted hair. As the thread rolls along, each hair follicle is lifted up and out from the root in that area, leaving smoother and softer skin behind. It’s fast, precise, and relatively painless as opposed to waxing or tweezing.

How is it better than waxing or tweezing?

Threading normally lasts twice as long as waxing, and you avoid all chemicals. Threading is also fundamentally different from tweezing or plucking. In tweezing, the hair is pulled from the top leaving the possibility of breaking the hair mid-way resulting in ingrown hair. Threading on the other hand, allows for a far more cleaner and long-term approach since the hair is pulled straight from the root. This allows us to even remove ingrown hairs in most cases while preventing them to happen in the first place.

Is it painful?

Threading is relatively painless compared to waxing or tweezing. The first time you get it done, you do feel a slight tingling sensation but that’s only because all the rough hair is being removed from its natural or previously waxed/tweezed state. The hair that grows in after the threading is usually softer and the skin around it is smoother making your next visit a delight.

How long does it take?

Threading time varies from customer to customer and depends on the existing growth and type of arch needed. As a general rule of thumb, it takes almost the same amount of time as waxing.

How long will the results last?

Individual hair re-growth rates vary from person to person, but because threading removes each hair from the root, results usually last longer than waxing. Most clients, on average, prefer to come in every 2-3 weeks for a well-maintained and groomed look.

I observed that part of the thread is held in the mouth of the stylists, is this sanitary?

Yes-it is definitely sanitary. The part of the thread that is in stylist’s mouth is never used on anyone’s skin and it never makes contact with the face. It is only meant to keep the thread tightly stretched out for better precision and accuracy in shaping. After each threading session, that part of the thread goes straight to disposal and a new thread is used for the next client.

Is threading for eyebrows only?

Threading allows for hair removal on any part of the face in an effective and precise manner. Whether you have a “peach-fuzz” growth on your upper lip, ingrown stubble near your chin, or even just a few sprouting hairs in and around your neck, the specialists can do it all. We do offer Full Face specials where you pay less than the sum of each individual part. Full Face threading includes Forehead, Eyebrows, Lip area, Chin, Sides, and Cheeks. If you don’t want them to touch any specific area, they will be more than glad to keep your request in mind.

My skin is very sensitive, will I get red from threading?

If you have sensitive skin, you may experience some redness but it usually subsides within 5-10 minutues. If you feel you have extremely sensitive skin, redness may last for an hour, which is still considerable less than waxing which may bring on redness for days at a time. Regardless of your sensitivity, please rest assured our stylists will apply a natural Aloe Vera gel used to cool the area, close the pores, and to reduce any irritation or redness. Customers can feel free to apply topical creams like hydrocortisone.

WAXING

What does No Double Dipping mean?

We strictly enforce a No Double Dipping policy at all our locations. When a customer requests any waxing service, your specialist will use a spatula to dip into a canister of wax. Once that spatula is used to apply the wax on your skin, that spatula is immediately disposed. This way, the wax is always clean and free from foreign bacteria and contaminants. This allows for a better and more sanitary waxing practice.

What are the differences between your various Bikini waxes?

There are 3 standard Bikini waxes: Bikini line, Semi-Brazilian Bikini, and Full Brazilian Bikini. The bikini line is a basic clean-up of the contours around the bikini area, the semi-brazilian bikini goes in deeper from the sides of the bikini line, and the full brazilian bikini covers the lip and/or crack areas. Your specialist will walk you through the entire process and they can advise you on the differences during your visit should you have any more concerns. Please feel free to let them know of your preferences as you can choose to leave a landing strip, triangle, or to go completely bare.

Can I get bikini waxing done during my period?

No. Keeping your body and safety in mind, getting such a service during your period is not advisable. Your specialist will reschedule an appointment for you.

Can I get bikini waxing done during my pregnancy?

Yes, but we do advise you consult with your doctor before getting the service done.

If I have a big event coming up, how long before should I scheudle my bikini wax?

To allow the sensitivity to subside, we recommend coming in at least 48 hours before your planned event.

How often should I follow up on my waxing services?

All clients have different rates of hair re-growth. On average, we recommend clients to follow-up with their waxing services anywhere from 3-5 weeks. For those clients who come on a regular basis, to maintain a fresh clean look and feeling, keep your time in between the visits to a maximum of 3 weeks.

I have ingrown hairs, what can I use to get rid of them?

Aside from daily exfoliation methods using various types of scrubs, adding a product like TendSkin will definitely help prevent ingrown hairs from happening and treating the skin if they already exist. Apply on a daily basis after showering to allow the skin to lock in the lotion. If it is a severe case of ingrown hairs, please apply twice a day.

EYELASH EXTENSIONS

HENNA

What is henna?

Henna is a natural reddish-brown dye used for temporary tattoos and is made into a mud-like paste that is applied to any part of the body to create a long-lasting temporary tattoo in a design of your choice. It’s completely painless and is simply drawn onto the skin. Once the Henna is fully dry, it will naturally flake off the skin to reveal an underlying beautiful henna tattoo.

How do I choose a Henna design?

Henna is all about creativity and so we carry an album full of designs for you to pick. However, if you have something specific in mind, you can bring in your own design to show our henna artists or allow them to improvize and create one for you.

How long does it take?

Application time depends on the intricacy and size of the design. It could be as little as 10 minutes or up to half an hour. It will take an additional 15-20 minutes to dry, and we suggest that you remain in the salon until the Henna is dry.

How long does a Henna Tattoo last?

The best part about Henna tattoos are that they're temporary!! They can last anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks, depending on your skin type. We do recommend that you not apply any water, lotion or oils onto the Henna tattoo, on the day it’s applied.

Do I need to schedule an appointment?

We encourage appointments so we can guarantee that a fresh batch of Henna will be awaiting you.

SAFETY

What are YUVA's client care practices?

All of our equipment -- scissors, brushes, and other tools -- are disinfected in Barbicide after every use. We rotate all of our tools so they can be sanitized in the Barbicide for the proper amount of time. We also use disposable bikinis for all of our wax treatments and we never double dip our wax!

For your saftey, we also do not use black Henna, as it is not natural and can cause rashes on certain skin types.
